Kartäuserkantorei Köln został zalożony z inicjatywy Paula Neumanna i przez 40 lat ustabilizował sobie wysoką pozycję wśród chórów nie tylko w Kolonii. Chór wykonywał oratoria Haendla i Bacha, a także utwory romantycznych kompozytorów jak Mahler czy Schönberg. Trasy koncertowe chóru prowadziły przez rózne zakątki Europy m.in: Paryż, Wenecja, Turyn, Budapeszt i Rzym. W 1993 roku w ramach odnowienia festiwalu „Wratislavia Cantans” chór wykonywał oratorium Haendla – „Saula”. W 2005 roku dyrygentem został Philipp Ahmann, który skupił się na poszerzeniu repertuaru a cappella i ukierunkował się bardziej na muzykę kameralną. Niemniej jednak chór w dalszym ciągu wykonywał muzykę oratoryjną w kolonijskiej filharmonii. Po swoim pożegnalnym koncercie, podczas którego zadyrygował „Requiem” Mozarta oraz „Mszą Nelsona” Haydna, Philipp Ahmann przeniósł się do Hamburga, gdzie został dyrygentem Chóru Radia Północnych Niemiec. 013 Kartäuserkantorei Köln wybrało na swojego dyrygenta Paula Krämera. Od tego czasu chór wystąpił w wielu koncertach m.in. wykonując „Pasję św. Mateusza” J.S. Bacha i „Guerre- Lieder” A. Schönberga w Filharmonii w Kolonii.

Over the last 40 years the Kartäuserkantorei Köln, founded by Peter Neumann, has established a high reputation not only in Cologne. Throughout this time the choir devoted itself to the oratorios of Händel and Bach as well as to works of the romantic era up to Mahler and Schönberg. Concert tours took the choir to many places all over Europe, among them Paris, Venice, Torino, Budapest and Rome. In 1993 the choir performed Händel’s “Saul” in the context of the renowned festival “Wratislavia Cantans” in Poland.
Following Peter Neumann in 2005, Philipp Ahmann focused on a wider a-capella-repertoire and turned more often to chamber music. Nevertheless the choir has been performing regularly oratorical music in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. After his farewell concert with Mozart’s „Requiem“ and Haydn’s „Nelson Mass“ in summer 2013 Philipp Ahmann moved to Hamburg having become the chief conductor of the Northern German Radio Choir (NDR).
In summer 2013 the Kartäuserkantorei Köln elected Paul Krämer as conductor. Since then the choir could be heard in a number of concerts, among them performances of J.S. Bach’s “St. Matthew-Passion” and Schönberg’s „Gurre-Lieder“ in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall.
